  1. Cutting Gap

  The so-called cutting gap is the gap between the moving knife and the fixed knife. Within a certain range, the larger the cutting gap, the smaller the cutting force required; conversely, the cutting force is greater, and the tool wear is greater. When the gap approaches zero, the cutting force becomes quite large, until the strength cannot be withstood, resulting in fracture. However, if the gap is too large, the quality will be significantly affected. Therefore, the cutting gap must be reasonably selected in production. According to experience, the cutting gap is controlled between 0.03mm and 0.04mm, which can both ensure a certain cutting force and obtain qualified slices.

  2. Desalted Water

  Desalted water is indispensable in the granulation process. It not only cools the cast strip and conveys materials, but also has a certain impact on the use of the tool. Desalted water can promptly remove the heat generated during cutting, reduce the wear rate, and also play a certain lubricating role. Without desalted water, heat loss will be slower, and wear will accelerate. However, excessive amounts will hinder operation and slicing, leading to increased noise and cutting consumption. Therefore, it has both advantages and disadvantages in the cutting process, and should be strictly controlled in actual production.

  3. The Influence of Titanium Dioxide Content on the Quality of Granulator Cutters

  Titanium dioxide is a matting agent in polyester production and an indispensable additive in chemical fiber production, but titanium dioxide has a significant impact on tool wear. When the titanium dioxide content increases, the life of the tool decreases sharply. When the content is close to zero, the tool life can be very long. In normal BOPP production, the content is 10%. At this time, the life of ordinary carbon alloy steel tools is only 40 minutes. It can be seen that titanium dioxide has a great impact on the service life of granulator cutters.

  4. Tool Machining

  After normal grinding, there are many small barbs on the cutting edge, which are sharp but brittle and easily broken. After the small barbs on the back break, the cutting force increases, generating more heat, and shortening the service life of the granulator cutter. Therefore, the small barbs must be carefully processed before use to reduce local stress concentration, thereby improving impact strength and extending the service life of the granulator cutter. During grinding, the blade width should be strictly controlled within 0.1-0.2 mm; otherwise, the cutting gap will be too large.

  5. Changes in Production Load

  Changes in production load will inevitably lead to changes in cutting conditions. Experience shows that with the increase in chip output, the amount of titanium dioxide used will also increase, the cutting speed and frictional heat will also increase, and the service life of the granulator cutter will also be shortened.
